Which medications matter?

The only medications that require you to be more cautious of your blood sugar levels with exercise are insulin or drugs that push your pancreas to make more insulin (insulin secretagogues).

Insulin with physical activity

If you are taking insulin or insulin secretagogues, talk to your diabetes team about exercise, since you may need to lower certain doses to avoid hypoglycaemia.

Your diabetes team may recommend that you test your blood glucose level before, during and/or after an activity session. They may also advise you on what to do if, upon testing, your blood glucose levels are too high or too low.
